Hoop Stress vs. Radius
About This Dashboard
This structural integrity monitor simulates real-time data from 48,000 sensors distributed across Concordiatra's hull and endcaps. It calculates hoop stress for the rotating cylinder, models multi-generational fatigue accumulation, and identifies critical failure points.
Hoop Stress
The primary structural concern for a rotating habitat is hoop stress: the circumferential force generated by centripetal acceleration. For Concordiatra's 1,800m radius at 0.705 RPM, this stress must remain well below the 1,000 MPa limit of the high-nickel taenite hull across the full 3,700-year mission.
Fatigue Modeling
Every rotation cycle (85 seconds) induces cyclic loading on the hull structure. Over 3,700 years, the ship completes approximately 23 billion rotation cycles. Miner's rule estimates cumulative fatigue damage, informing maintenance schedules and structural reinforcement priorities.
